Painted Pistachio Productions Mission Statement
To borrow from Thoreau, Painted Pistachio’s mission is simple yet not easy. As many know, in this social media-drenched, superficiality-saturated, easy world, simplicity can't simply be discovered or experienced. We art-makers and art consumers must unearth, create, craft, and experience simplicity ourselves and share it with a simplicity-deprived world.
So how does a theater troupe embrace simplicity while avoiding ease? Through dedicated, passionate, and focused labor, we distill our ambitions and practices into potential-packed seeds and cultivate them into brilliant theater blossoms for the theatergoing public.
Our labor as theater artists is more akin to a lotus flower. The stunning lotus both emerges from and thrives in a mucky, gunky, stunningly life-rich swamp. The lotus is also one of the few flowers that both blooms and disseminates at the same time. What then do those radiant flowers we cultivate (theater experiences themselves) achieve? From Painted Pistachio’s perspective, it’s quite simple:
Our productions create blossoms that simultaneously disseminate vitality (the performances) for the audience (the soil) by challenging, enlightening, energizing, humanizing, enthralling, transportive, engaging, inspiring, and entertaining. In other words, we create a genuinely transformational communal experience.Also vital to Painted Pistachio Productions is our social imperative: We make theater accessible, viable, affordable, and inextricably woven into the communities where we perform.
This, too, is simple yet not easy (especially given the challenges of the commodification, monetization, and social elevation of much theater). Consequently, all of our productions are modestly priced, donation-based, or free to the public; are staged in economically, ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse communities; and are relentlessly committed to inclusivity and diversity. Therefore, all of these aspects of Painted Pistachio Productions are "simply" imperative and serve as our rudder no matter where we sail.
